Ron Hall RIP

May 22nd, 2017

On Monday 15th May we said goodbye to Ron Hall, longstanding member of St John’s, who died in such dramatic circumstances in church three weeks before. Ron came from Worcestershire and although after converting to Christianity as a result of organising his father’s funeral he considered becoming a minister, he instead had a vocation to teaching which brought him and his wife Hazel to Surrey, where he was eventually headmaster of Godalming Junior School and St Bede’s School in Shalford. At St John’s Ron directed the Sunday Schools and served as churchwarden from 1969 to 1973. One of his hobbies was woodturning and he made our Paschal candlestick, the wooden processional cross we use in Lent, and the big cross that hangs on the wall of the Church Room as well as smaller items. He was a lovely man and a great Christian – we will miss him dreadfully but give thanks for all he gave over his 91 years.
