Within St John’s there are a variety of special groups which focus areas of¬†action, study or fellowship. If you’re interested in getting involved with any of them, or want to find out more, contact the Rector.

Mother’s Union

A long-established campaigning organisation in the Church of England with a special concern for family welfare issues, and providing support for women members of the church. The MU meets in the Church Room at 11.15am on the first Tuesday every month and at 2.30pm on the second Wednesday; there is also a MU Prayer Group which meets in the Lady Chapel at 10am on the first Tuesday, and members often stay for the Eucharist immediately afterwards. Organiser Sylvia Morley.

Monday Group

A ladies’ fellowship group which meets in the Church Room at 8pm on the first and third Monday evenings every month for refreshments, conversation and listening to interesting speakers. Organiser Jenny Downes.

Mens’ Breakfast

Gentlemen gather for cereal, coffee and bacon rolls in the Church Room at 8.30am on the first Saturday of every other month, and to listen to a speaker about life, work and faith (sometimes all three). Organiser Edouard le Maistre.

After-School Club

Children at Farncombe School can sign up for Church Club as one of their after-school activities. We meet every Wednesday afternoon from 3pm to 4pm for craft activities, stories, games, songs and prayers. Organiser Shirley Martin.

St John’s Toddler Group

Operates on Friday mornings from 10am to 11.30am. On the last Friday in each month (usually) we go into the Lady Chapel for 5-10 minutes of ‘Toddler Praise’. Organiser Hazel Freeston. The Group’s Facebook page is here:¬†fblogo

Our small choir (augmented from other churches for special occasions!) sings for the Parish Eucharist and for other festal services, especially the Advent Service of Light and Christmas Carol service for which we learn anthems and special pieces. Organiser Yvonne Budd.

Home Groups

‘Wednesday at 3’ is specifically for residents of Allingham Court and meets (funnily enough) at 3pm on Wednesday afternoons for tea, conversation, light-hearted faith-sharing, and sometimes trips out: contact Audrey Hargreaves. ‘Together@Amity’ is a fellowship group that meets on the first Tuesday evening of each month: contact Penny Rivers. The ‘Bethany’ Group is a group specifically for older ladies who find themselves living alone, which meets fortnightly on Thursday afternoons at 2.30pm. Contact: Revd Maggie Stirling-Troy.

Bible Study

Bible study groups meet for ‘courses’ of several weeks each to look at specific books of the Bible in depth. Recently they’ve been running on Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. Organiser Lois Warden.
